थायलंड : बौद्ध मंदिर भिंतीवर रामायण

यामुळे थायलंडच्या बौद्धमंदीराच्या भितींवर ‘रामायण’ कोरण्यात आलं आहे

🇦 थायलंडच्या बौद्धमंदीराच्या भिंतीवर रामायण कोरण्यात आलं आहे.

वाट फ्रा काएव अर्थात हरित बुद्ध मंदिर हे थायलंडचं प्रसिद्ध बौद्धमंदीर आहे. थायलंडची राजधानी बॅंकाकमध्ये असणाऱ्या राजवाड्याशेजारीच हे मंदीर आहे. या मंदिराला हरित बुद्ध मंदिर का म्हणतात तर इथे ज्या गौतम बुद्धांच्या मुर्ती आहेत हिरव्या रंगाच्या दगडात कोरलेल्या आहेत. त्यामुळे हे हरित बौद्ध मंदीर जगभरात प्रसिद्ध आहे.

थायलंडमध्ये तर या बौद्ध मंदिराला रक्षकाच्या स्वरूपात मानण्यात येते.

पण सर्वात विशेष गोष्ट म्हणजे या मंदीराची भिंत. या मंदिराभोवती सुमारे दोन किलोमीटर लांबीची भिंत आहे. विशेष म्हणजे त्यावर रामायण कोरण्यात आलेलं आहे. साधारण भारतीय माणसं जेव्हा या मंदिरात जातात तेव्हा त्यांना रामायणाची चित्रे बघून आश्चर्य वाटतं. बौद्ध मंदिरात रामायण कसं असू शकतं.

🇦 भितींवर कोरण्यात आलेल्या रामायणातून फ्रा राम ची जीवनगाथा चितारण्यात आलेली आहे. इथला श्री रामास तिथे फ्रा राम म्हणून संबोधले जाते तर रामायणाचे रुपांतर रामाकीन होते. रामाकीन याच कथेचा नायक फ्रा राम मानण्यात येतो.

याच रामाकीनची गोष्ट २ किलोमीटर लांबीच्या भिंतीवर रेखाटण्यात आलेली आहे.

थाई भाषेत रामाकीनचा अर्थ राम गौरव गाथा असा होतो. थायलंडमधले रामायण हे वाल्मिकी रामायणाहून काही अर्थी भिन्न स्वरुपाचे आहे. जागेचे वर्णन, पात्रांचे विविरण या गोष्टींमध्ये वाल्मिकी रामायणापासून मतभिन्नता आहे. इथल्या रामाकीनमध्ये इथलीच स्थानिक पात्र दाखवण्यात येतात.

मात्र असे असले तरी रामायणाची चित्र बौद्ध मंदिरात का लावण्यात आली आहेत हा प्रश्न उरतोच.

या प्रश्नाचं उत्तर भारता व दक्षिणपूर्व आशियायी देशांच्यामध्ये पुर्वापार चालत आलेल्या राष्ट्रीय संबधांमध्ये मिळतं. पुर्वीच्या काळा दक्षिण भारतातील व्यापारी या क्षेत्रात व्यापारासाठी पोहचले होते. थायलंड, कंबोडिया इत्यादी देशांमधले हे व्यापारी संबध इसन १३०० पासून चालू आहेत.

याच व्यापाऱ्यांनी इथे पहिल्यांदा रामायण आणले असल्याचे सांगण्यात येते.त्याचसोबतीने इथे हिंदू राजांनी आपले वर्चस्व गाजवण्यास सुरवात केली. काही कालावधीनंतर राजसत्ता बुडाली व हिंदूधर्म देखील संपुष्टात येत गेला.

मात्र धर्माप्रमाणेच इथल्या संस्कृतीत रामायण मिसळले गेले. हिंदू धर्माच्या चालिरीती आणि जगण्याची परंपरा इथल्या ंसंस्कृतीचा अंग होत गेले. याच एक उदाहरण सांगायचं झालं तर,

काही वर्षांपूर्वी कंबाडियाच्या राजाचा राज्याभिषेक सोहळा आयोजित करण्यात आला होता. हा राज्याभिषेक ब्राह्मणांच्या हस्ते पार पडला. कंबोडियाच्या राज्याच्या राज्याभिषेकासाठी देखील ब्राह्मण पौरोहित लागत असल्याने बऱ्याच चर्चा झाल्या होत्या.

इंडोनेशिया हा मुस्लीमबहूल देश आहे तर थायलंड हा बौद्धबहुल देश आहे. मात्र या दोन्ही संस्कृतीत रामाकीन हा महत्वाचा घटक राहिलेला आहे. १८ व्या शतकात संस्करित करण्यात आलेला रामाकीन ग्रॅंथाला थायलंडमध्ये राजग्रॅंथाचा दर्जा देण्यात आलेला आहे.

एकाच वेळी अनेक रामाकीन प्रसिद्ध होते मात्र १८ व्या शतकात थायलंडमधील अयुत्थया या राजधानीवर ब्रम्हदेशाच्या सेनेने आक्रमण करुन बेचिराख करुन टाकले. त्यानंतरच्या काळात चिनी सैन्याने ब्रह्मदेशावर आक्रमण केल्यामुळे थायलंडमधील सैन्य पुन्हा ब्रह्मदेशात परतले व थायलंडमध्ये पुन्हा राजवंशाचा उदय झाला.

चक्री वंशाचा पहिल्या राजाला देखील राम प्रथम उपाधी देण्यात आली होती. जेव्हा ब्रह्मदेशाचं सैन्य इथून परत गेलं तेव्हा आपल्या सांस्कृतिक गोष्टींची पुर्नबांधणी या राजाच्या देखरेखीखाली करण्यात आली. १७९७ ते १८०७ च्या दरम्यान रामायणाचे हे संस्करण तयार करण्यात आले. त्यातीलच चित्रे या बौद्धमंदीरावर कोरण्यात आलेले आहेत.

Ramayana is engraved on the wall of a Buddhist temple in Thailand.

Wat Phra Kayev (Green Buddha Temple) is a famous Buddhist temple in Thailand. The temple is located next to the palace in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Why is this temple called the Green Buddha Temple? The idols of Gautama Buddha are carved in green stone. Therefore, this green Buddhist temple is famous all over the world.

In Thailand, this Buddhist temple is considered as a guardian.

But the most special thing is the wall of this temple. There is a wall about two kilometers long around this temple. What is special is that Ramayana is engraved on it. When ordinary Indians visit this temple, they are amazed to see pictures of Ramayana. How can there be Ramayana in a Buddhist temple.

The life story of Fra Ram is depicted in the Ramayana carved on the walls. Here Shri Rama is referred to as Phra Rama while Ramayana is adapted to Ramakin. Ramakin is believed to be the protagonist of this story.

The story of Ramakin is drawn on a 2 km long wall.

Ramakin in Thai means Ram Gaurav Gatha. The Ramayana in Thailand is somewhat different from the Valmiki Ramayana. The description of the place, the description of the characters differs from the Valmiki Ramayana. Local characters are shown here in Ramakin.

However, the question remains as to why the images of Ramayana have been installed in Buddhist temples.

Indonesia is a Muslim-majority country and Thailand is a Buddhist-majority country. However, Ramakin remains an important element in both these cultures. The Ramakin Grantha, which was Sanskritized in the 18th century, has been given the status of a Rajgrantha in Thailand.

Many Ramakins were famous at the same time, but in the 18th century, the Thai capital, Ayutthaya, was invaded by the Burmese army. In the ensuing period, the invasion of Burma by the Chinese forces led to the return of the Thai army to Burma and the re-emergence of the dynasty in Thailand.

The first king of the Chakri dynasty was also given the first title of Rama. When the Burmese army returned from here, our cultural heritage was rebuilt under the supervision of this king. This edition of Ramayana was prepared between 1797 and 1807. The paintings are carved on this Buddhist temple.
