Long Term Measures Planned To Avoid Recurrence

”Maha Metro Nagpur Starts Restoration Work for Rain-Hit Areas”

NAGPUR 16 : Maha Metro Nagpur has taken up restoration operations on mega-scale after heavy downpour lashed city. Heavy rains led to submergence of low-lying areas, erosion of soil leading to crack on road, falling of transformer in Somalwada area. While Maha Metro Nagpur immediately swung into action to restore normalcy at all levels, it regrets inconvenience caused to Nagpurians.

Though Maha Metro Nagpur officials had launched operation on a war-footing to restore normalcy yesterday itself, today, a team of senior officials including ED (Reach-I) Devendra Ramtekkar, GM (Admin) Anil Kokate and others visited all trouble-hit areas to take stock of the situation. The officials interacted with public representatives, ward corporators, affected people and promised to solve the problems. The visit and interaction satisfied the affected section.

Yesterday, soil on stretch opposite Airport got eroded and crack appeared on the road. Soon after being informed, a team of Quick Response Team (QRT), Metro Officials and others rushed there and diverted traffic. Patch-work was started on war-footing, the stretch was relaid and traffic restored in around 2 hours.

Soon after Maha Metro officials launched operation to flush out water from submerged areas of Somalwada, Manish Nagar, Ujwal Nagar areas. Complaints from inhabitants of Udayan Residential Complex and Kirana Shop owner Mr Sakharkar were addressed and water was flushed out.

This apart two suction pumps have been pressed into service today and for all future emergencies. Open trench has been constructed for discharge of water from Udayan Complex. Similar complaints from Somalwada and Manish Nagar areas were also addressed. Especially road near Pancha Tara Society and opposite Anuriddhi Novelties and Flash Back Studio would be relaid.

Soil/Red Soil would be laid on stretch of land which got eroded. Similarly refilling of soil has begun on the patch of road where Manish Nagar Under Pass is being constructed. Rains also led to fall of Transformer at Somalwada. While Maha Metro officials immediately started operations to ensure that power supply was restored, today efforts have been started to re-erect Transformer.

Shortcomings observed during today’s visit have been noted and due precautions would be taken in future. Maha Metro expresses sincere regrets for inconvenience caused to citizens and vows to avoid recurrence in future.
